Birth rates have been falling to their lowest levels in over 200 years, with a 4% drop in births in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year. This marks a historic low, according to demographer Alexei Raksha. The situation is so dire that even births of third or subsequent children, actively encouraged by the government, have fallen below pre-war levels.
