At the "Night of Champions" in Stuttgart, Porsche Motorsport unveiled its ambitious plans for the upcoming year, with a focus on its core commitments in the FIA Formula E World Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Dr. Michael Steiner, a member of Porsche AG's Executive Board, emphasized the inseparable bond between Porsche and motorsport, highlighting the success of the 911 Cup version as one of the most popular customer racing cars worldwide.

But here's where it gets interesting: Porsche is not just about the big names; they're committed to nurturing young talent. This autumn, they scouted for junior talents, unearthing two promising drivers for the 2026 season.

Endurance racing remains a key focus, with Porsche competing in the IMSA and the WEC's LMGT3 class. And they're doubling down on Formula E, where the 26/27 season will introduce the GEN4 race cars, offering greater flexibility for manufacturers.

Thomas Laudenbach, Head of Porsche Motorsport, reflects on the successful 2025 season, boasting titles in both Formula E and the IMSA series. However, the close second-place finish at Le Mans, just 14 seconds behind, still stings. Laudenbach credits the team's success to exceptional teamwork, which also enabled Porsche to compete for the WEC world championship.

And this is the part most people miss: Porsche's commitment to customer racing has yielded significant results, with class victories at Le Mans, all GT titles in the WEC, and a DTM victory. They even came close to success in the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa.

Now, Porsche is ready to start afresh, with the 2026 season promising to be one of the most thrilling yet.

In Formula E, Porsche enters the 2025/2026 season as the reigning Teams' and Manufacturers' World Champions. The current season, their seventh, sees the US customer team Andretti Formula E competing with the efficient Porsche 99X Electric in the GEN3 Evo version. Cupra Kiro joins as a second Porsche customer team, utilizing 99X technology from the previous GEN3 generation. Swiss driver Nico Müller moves from Andretti to the factory team, taking over from António Félix da Costa, whose support has been instrumental in Porsche's three consecutive world championship titles.

The twelfth Formula E season, kicking off on December 6th in São Paulo, will be the last under the current rules. The third-generation cars are on their farewell tour, while testing has already begun on the new GEN4 cars, promising an unprecedented performance boost. Porsche's Formula E project faces the challenge of preparing for the new cars' introduction in 2026/2027 while competing in the 16-race World Championship battle.

In the IMSA series, Porsche Penske Motorsport, fresh from winning all championship titles in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, aims to maintain its benchmark status in North America. In 2026, two Porsche 963s will once again compete in the top GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The season opener at the 24 Hours of Daytona in late January will see Frenchman Kévin Estre and Belgian Laurens Vanthoor as regular drivers in the number 6 car, while the sister car with the number 7 will be shared by Brazilian Felipe Nasr and Julien Andlauer from France. Reigning IMSA champion Matt Campbell from Australia and former Porsche Junior Laurin Heinrich from Germany will support the factory team at the endurance classics in Daytona and Sebring, as well as at the season finale "Petit Le Mans" at Road Atlanta.

Porsche is making some exciting changes to its driver squad for the 2026 season. Former Porsche Juniors Laurin Heinrich from Germany and Ayhancan Güven from Turkey will be promoted to works drivers. Heinrich's IMSA GTD Pro Championship title win and Güven's impressive DTM title victory last season have earned them this well-deserved promotion. The extended Porsche driver squad will also welcome two Frenchmen, Alessandro Ghiretti, a Porsche Junior in 2024 and 2025, and Dorian Boccolacci, sponsored by Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific. Porsche's commitment to digital racing continues with the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team, which moved to a new headquarters in Cologne in May - the Porsche Esports Performance Centre. The team will be joined by 25-year-old Spaniard Alejandro Sánchez Belloso, a former champion in the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup. In 2026, he will join the existing factory drivers Joshua Rogers, Charlie Collins, and Dayne Warren. Before the new season begins, the team will continue to fight for a successful end to the year with its current lineup, with Collins and Elvis Rankin recently winning the IMSA Esports Global Championship.

In GT racing, Porsche customer teams will compete with the improved 911 GT3 R in the biggest GT series and at major standalone events, including the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the DTM, where Porsche celebrated numerous titles in 2025 with professional partner teams. Extensive deployments are also planned in the IMSA Championship, the GT World Challenge, and the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps. In the GT4 sector, customer teams will continue to rely on the proven and successful Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will see an important innovation in 2026, with customer teams competing for the first time with the new Porsche 911 Cup in the eight races held during European Formula 1 weekends. The 382 kW (520 hp) vehicle will also make its debut in the Carrera Cups Germany, North America, and Asia Pacific in the coming season. Teams will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new Cup racing car in early March, with a joint rollout of 50 brand-new cars from the Supercup and the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany taking place on the Formula 1 circuit in Barcelona. The Carrera World Cup is also scheduled to take place at the same venue in 2026, with Porsche expecting up to 100 one-make cup drivers to participate.

Porsche's talent promotion program continues with Flynt Schuring and Marcus Amand becoming the new Porsche Juniors for the 2026 motorsport season. The two 19-year-olds from the Netherlands and Finland prevailed in a shootout involving twelve talented youngsters. Both will compete in the full season of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and in a national Porsche Carrera Cup next year. Amand won the Porsche Carrera Cup France title in 2025, while Schuring won three races in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany and finished third overall in the Supercup. Porsche Motorsport's support includes intensive training in various areas, from vehicle technology and setup work to fitness, nutrition, media, marketing, and career planning. Since 1997, Porsche Motorsport has been nurturing young talent on their journey to professional racing, with notable successes, including Le Mans winners Timo Bernhard and Marc Lieb, IMSA champions Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet, and reigning DTM champion Ayhancan Güven.

Dutchman Loek Hartog was awarded the traditional Porsche Cup on November 29th, becoming the 56th title holder after prevailing against 497 competitors from 53 nations. Hartog's achievements in 2025 include class victories in the GT World Challenge Europe and the Intercontinental GT Challenge, as well as a podium finish at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup North America champion will receive €150,000, with Porsche Motorsport awarding a total of more than €280,000 in prize money to the most successful private drivers. The Porsche Cup, initiated by Ferry Porsche in 1970, continues to be a prestigious award in the motorsport world.
