Mets Trade for Two-Time All-Star RHP Freddy Peralta (2026)

Big Moves in Baseball: Mets Acquire Star Pitcher Freddy Peralta!

On January 22, 2026, the New York Mets made headlines by trading for the talented right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta, a two-time All-Star from the Milwaukee Brewers. Alongside Peralta, the Mets also welcomed right-hander Tobias Myers to their roster, parting ways with two promising prospects in the process.

In this trade, the Brewers received the right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat and infielder Jett Williams, both of whom have shown potential in their respective minor league careers.

Freddy Peralta, who is now 29 years old, had an impressive season in 2025 where he topped the National League with 17 wins, boasting a remarkable record of 17-6. He achieved a career-best ERA of 2.70 and contributed significantly to his team's success, achieving a wins above replacement (WAR) of 5.5, which was the second-highest on the Brewers. Throughout his career, Peralta has participated in a total of 211 games, starting 162 of them, and holds a solid record of 70 wins against 42 losses along with a 3.59 ERA. His performance helped the Brewers clinch the top spot in the NL Central Division with a stellar season finish of 97-65, which was the best in Major League Baseball.

Making his debut in the majors in 2018, Peralta has spent all eight seasons of his professional career with the Brewers. During this time, he has not only earned two All-Star selections but also finished fifth in the voting for the prestigious NL Cy Young Award in 2025, highlighting his status as one of the league's elite pitchers.

This acquisition marks the Mets' third significant move within a week, following their recent signing of two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette to a lucrative three-year deal worth $126 million, and their trade for slugger Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox just a day prior.

Tobias Myers, who was part of the trade, made 22 appearances for the Brewers in 2025, including six starts, and ended the season with a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 3.55 while striking out 38 batters over 50 and two-thirds innings. At 27 years old, he holds a career record of 10 wins and 8 losses with an impressive ERA of 3.15 and a WAR of 3.3.

The Mets are also parting with Jett Williams, a 22-year-old infielder who has yet to make his Major League debut. In 2025, Williams played across Double-A and Triple-A, achieving a combined batting average of .261 with 17 home runs, 52 RBIs, and an impressive 34 stolen bases in 130 games. Meanwhile, Brandon Sproat, 25, made his major league debut in September, finishing with a record of 0-2 and a 4.79 ERA across four starts, during which he allowed 18 hits and 11 runs over 20 and two-thirds innings, but notably did not give up any home runs.

In the previous season, the Mets concluded with a record of 83-79, narrowly missing the playoffs on the last day of the regular season despite leading the NL East by a substantial margin of 8 and a half games back in June.
