Bafta Rising Star Nominees 2025: Meet the Next Generation of Film Stars! (2026)

Hold on to your hats, film buffs! The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) has just dropped a bombshell, announcing the nominees for its prestigious Rising Star Award. And trust me, you're going to want to know these names because they're about to explode onto the Hollywood scene.

This isn't just another award; it's a crystal ball, predicting who will be the next generation of cinematic giants. Previous winners include the likes of James McAvoy, John Boyega, and Emma Mackey – actors who've gone on to achieve incredible success. So, who are the potential superstars of tomorrow? Let's dive in.

According to BBC News reporter Freddy Tennyson, this year's list is a fascinating blend of British and American talent. Representing the US are Miles Caton (of Sinners fame) and Chase Infiniti, known for her role in One Battle After Another. Flying the flag for the UK are Robert Aramayo, celebrated for I Swear; Archie Madekwe, who starred in Lurker; and Posy Sterling, recognized for her work in Lollipop.

But here's what makes this award truly special: you get to decide the winner! The Rising Star Award is the only BAFTA film prize voted for by the public, giving you the power to shape the future of film. The winner will be revealed at the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony in February.

Let's take a closer look at these rising stars:

Robert Aramayo:

Hailing from Hull, Aramayo's nomination stems from his powerful performance in I Swear, where he portrays a young man navigating life with Tourette's syndrome in the 1980s. The film is based on the real-life experiences of John Davidson, who was also the subject of a BBC documentary in the 80s. Aramayo himself described the role as "the hardest I've ever done," highlighting the emotional depth and commitment he brought to the character.

And this is the part most people miss: Aramayo's journey wasn't an overnight success. After graduating from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York in 2018, he steadily built his career, landing a breakthrough role as a young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. Talk about a launchpad!

Aramayo's reaction to the nomination? Pure joy: "If young Robert only knew he'd be standing here as an EE Rising Star nominee today, he'd be very proud."

Miles Caton:

At just 20 years old, Caton is experiencing a true breakout moment. His portrayal of Sammie in Sinners has already earned him a Critics' Choice Award for best young actor and a nomination for best supporting actor at the Actor Awards (formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards). That's some serious recognition!

Growing up in a musical family – his mother is gospel singer Timiney Figueroa – Caton began performing early. A childhood video of him singing Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" even caught the eye of Jay-Z, who used it in a short film. By 16, he was touring the world as a backing singer for H.E.R. Sinners is his first film role, but he's already hooked, stating that acting "has become something that I definitely want to take seriously and move further in."

Chase Infiniti:

Infiniti's star is rapidly ascending thanks to her role as Willa in One Battle After Another, where she plays the fiercely independent daughter of a former revolutionary, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Before that, she turned heads in the Apple TV+ legal thriller Presumed Innocent, playing Jaden Sabich opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga.

Infiniti honed her craft on stage, graduating with a theatre arts BFA from Columbia College Chicago in 2022 before transitioning to film and television.

Archie Madekwe:

Madekwe's nomination comes from his role in Lurker, a psychological thriller where he plays an up-and-coming pop star blackmailed by a superfan. Interestingly, he initially auditioned for the role of the superfan but ultimately landed the lead. You might also recognize him from Saltburn and Midsommar.

The south London-born actor is also an alumnus of the Brit School, a breeding ground for British talent (like Tom Holland, a previous Rising Star winner). Eagle-eyed viewers might also spot him in early roles in Channel 4 sitcoms like Fresh Meat and Hang Ups.

Madekwe described his nomination as "surreal."

Posy Sterling:

Manchester-born Sterling is nominated for Lollipop, where she delivers a raw and emotionally charged performance as a single mum who, upon release from prison, must fight her own mother for custody of her children. This role has already earned her the British Independent Film Award for breakthrough performance.

While Lollipop marks her first leading role in a feature film, she's been steadily building her reputation with standout appearances in TV dramas like The Road Trip and You Don't Know Me.

Sterling expressed feeling "genuinely overwhelmed by this recognition."

The Bafta Film Awards will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 22nd, hosted by Alan Cumming, and broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer.

Now, here's where it gets controversial... While all the nominees are incredibly talented, some might argue that certain actors already have a significant head start due to their previous roles in high-profile productions. Does this give them an unfair advantage in a category meant to celebrate emerging talent? Food for thought!

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide who deserves the Rising Star Award. Who do you think has the potential to become a household name? Which performance resonated with you the most? And do you think the definition of "rising star" needs to be re-evaluated in an industry increasingly dominated by established franchises? Let your voice be heard in the comments below!
