Get ready, Marvel fans, because Avengers: Doomsday is rumored to be going through some major changes! Early next year, Marvel Studios is expected to dive back into additional photography for the highly anticipated film, and whispers of 'insane' plans are already circulating. But what does this mean for the movie, and what should we expect?
Reports suggest that the film wrapped up its principal photography around a month ago. However, the creative process doesn't end there! Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers are known for their meticulous approach, often revisiting projects to refine and enhance them. This often involves reshoots.
A recent social media post from a member of the film's stunt team has fueled speculation. The team member shared images of new Doomsday merchandise, including a sleek black hoodie and a green Avengers logo cap, along with a heartfelt thank you. The card, Doctor Doom-themed, mentioned crossing the 'finish line,' which has sparked rumors of reshoots already being underway.
However, here's where it gets controversial...
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the timing of these reshoots. While some sources suggest that cameras might already be rolling, others, like Daniel Richtman, firmly deny it. It seems Marvel might be holding off until early next year to begin the additional photography.
Avengers: Doomsday and its companion film, Avengers: Secret Wars, have faced significant delays, with Doomsday now slated for a December 18, 2026, release and Secret Wars set for December 17, 2027. Both films will be directed by the Russo brothers, who have a proven track record within the MCU, having helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Their return is highly anticipated.
"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves,” said The Russos in a statement after the SDCC panel.
